Apply to the bench

Fifteen to twenty minutes. PILLAR reads every one.

The bench is how PILLAR staffs the work. Every engagement is scoped and paid as a contract, remote, at above-market rates; some run a few weeks and some become year-long retainers. The clients range widely. We do not ask you to share every belief a client holds, and we do ask for respect for their missions and for the integrity of the work. Who belongs here is written down on the Values page.

Write the way you would talk about your work to someone who already knows the field. The applications that lead to a conversation are the ones that sound like a person. Your answers are kept in this browser as you type, so you can leave and come back; the resume needs choosing again. Need an accommodation, or is something unclear? Write to hello@pillarcreative.com.

The application

About you

The email you check. This is how we will reach you.

We will not call cold. This is for after the first conversation.

Time zone matters when client meetings are involved. A city, state, or country is enough. The two open roles are United States only.

Your work

Skip the job title. Tell us what you actually do, what you are best at, and what a client gets when they bring you in.

What disciplines describe your work?

Pick the ones that describe your core craft, all that apply. Paid Media adds a few questions of its own.

Both open roles need documented experience in that discipline. If neither is the fit, the general bench is always open, and this answer changes nothing about how your application is read.

This role runs on quick turns, so a real example beats a general claim: what the piece was, how long you had, and how close the first draft came to final.

On a lot of accounts this person is the only one tracking it closely. Name the platforms you post on, and what is working differently now.

Paid media. If you picked Paid Media & Performance, these are for you. Short answers are fine; we are calibrating.

What is your typical channel mix?

Across an account or a portfolio. Any range is fine.

Which attribution platforms have you set up and run?
What kinds of clients have you worked with?

A few sentences. Rough metrics if you are comfortable sharing. What the work was, what the challenge was, what made it good.

What happened, what you did about it, and what you took from it.

What you did, what the challenge was, and what made the work good. What you contributed matters more than whose logo was on it. A few sentences each is plenty.

Career pivots, unusual skill combinations, side projects, volunteer work that shaped how you think.

A link to your portfolio, personal site, LinkedIn, Behance, Dribbble, a Drive folder, whatever shows the work. If some of it sits behind an NDA, say so here and we will sort it out.

PDF preferred, 10 MB at most. If yours is a little out of date, send it anyway and say so in the last question.

The practical stuff

Everyone at PILLAR works remotely. Engagements range from a single deliverable to a year-long retainer, with month-to-month work in between. These questions tell us which ones to call you about.

What kind of work arrangement are you open to?

All that apply. Most PILLAR work is contract-based: some of it a single project, some month to month, some a retainer.

The range you normally work in. PILLAR pays above-market rates and nobody is asked to discount their work. If an engagement comes together, the rate is a real conversation.

When you could realistically start if the right engagement landed. A rough date is fine, and it commits you to nothing.

Full-time somewhere with side capacity, running your own shop, between things. Whatever it is, it helps to know.

Almost done

A name, a podcast, LinkedIn, a job board. If somebody sent you, tell us who so we can thank them.

Open floor. How you work, what you are looking for, what matters to you professionally.

PILLAR responds within a week or two, faster if your background lines up with what we are staffing.
