Open role
Marketing writer
Clear copy, on a real deadline.
PILLAR needs a writer who can take a brief and send back finished marketing copy quickly. Most jobs are short: an email, a week of social captions, a landing page, a one-pager somebody wants by Thursday. On some clients you are the only writer in the room. On others you are writing inside an established house style and a review process.
The work
Email
Campaign emails and fundraising appeals, most of them on a fixed monthly calendar.
Social copy
Captions and short posts in the organization’s voice.
Short-form marketing
Landing pages, one-pagers, ads, event copy.
Quick turns
A good amount of this moves fast, sometimes from brief on Tuesday to live on Thursday.
Someone else’s voice
Every job comes with a brand and a tone that are not yours. Sometimes that arrives as a full brand guide. Other times you build it from a conversation and a few past pieces.
The arrangement
Independent, and on a team
You are a contractor and you keep your own clients and your own calendar, but on an engagement other people are building their week around when your piece lands.
The shape changes by client
A monthly retainer on one, month to month on another, and sometimes a single project with an end date. On a retainer, hours average across the whole term, so a heavy month and a quiet month even out.
We run on trust
Good work and fair hours come from the same thing: talking early. If a piece of work is growing, you say so while there is still room to plan around it. Our posture toward a client is yes. Our posture with each other is communication.
Account leaders own the planning
Every engagement has an account leader who handles hours, capacity, and scheduling with the client. That keeps you on the work you were brought in to do.
What this role needs
Fast first drafts, in other people’s voices, across a lot of short formats
A clean first draft
Given a reasonable deadline, what you send back is close to final.
Range across formats
An email one day, captions the next, a one-pager after that. Switching quickly matters more here than being deep in any one format.
Discipline about voice
You can hold a brand voice that is not yours across months of work.
Either kind of setup
Some clients hand you the whole thing. Others have a comms team and a review cycle you write inside. You are steady in both.
Documented experience
You can start producing in week one.
Apply for this role, and show us the writing
Everything runs through the application. It takes 15 to 20 minutes, you can save and come back, and PILLAR reads every one. There is no email path for this role.
You need a resume or CV and a portfolio of marketing copy you have actually written. Live links, PDFs, a Drive folder, screenshots of emails that went out. If the good stuff is under an NDA, say so in the application and we will sort it out. An application missing either one will not get read.
We like hiring people who are still getting their feet wet, and PILLAR will keep doing it. This opening needs someone further along, with documented experience behind them and the ability to hit the ground running. If you are earlier than that, apply to the general bench and stay in touch.
Resume and portfolio required. 15 to 20 minutes.
