Open role

Social media
manager

The whole account, or your part of it.

PILLAR needs social media managers who can carry an account alone and also work inside a team running a large one. On a smaller account you would own the calendar, write the posts, make most of the graphics, publish them, answer the comments, and write up how the month went. On a larger one you might own two channels and hand the rest off. Both happen here, sometimes for the same person in the same month.

The work

  1. The calendar

You plan a month at a time, for the whole account or for the channels that are yours.

  2. The copy

Captions and short posts in the organization’s voice.

  3. Design and copy support

A lot of accounts have a designer and a writer attached, and on those you brief them and review what comes back. Plenty do not, and there you are making the graphic in Canva and writing the caption yourself.

  4. Posting and community

Scheduling, publishing, and answering comments and messages during the day.

  5. The monthly read

A page or so on how the month went and what you would change.

  6. Strategy

A plan for what gets posted and why. Simple is fine as long as you can keep it running for a year.

The arrangement

  1. Independent, and on a team

You are a contractor and you keep your own clients and your own calendar, but on an engagement other people are building their week around when your piece lands.

  2. The shape changes by client

A monthly retainer on one, month to month on another, and sometimes a single project with an end date. On a retainer, hours average across the whole term, so a heavy month and a quiet month even out.

  3. We run on trust

Good work and fair hours come from the same thing: talking early. If a piece of work is growing, you say so while there is still room to plan around it. Our posture toward a client is yes. Our posture with each other is communication.

  4. Account leaders own the planning

Every engagement has an account leader who handles hours, capacity, and scheduling with the client. That keeps you on the work you were brought in to do.

Who this fits

Able to run an account alone, and steady inside a bigger team

  1. A one-person band

You can plan, write, make, post, and report without handing a piece off. Where there is a designer and a writer on the account, you brief them well and actually use them.

  2. Working inside a team

On a larger client you might own two channels while other people own the rest, and the account has its own lead. Knowing where your piece ends matters as much as being able to do all of it.

  3. Current on the platforms

You keep up with what each platform is rewarding and what is actually landing right now. On a lot of accounts you are the only person tracking it that closely.

  4. Documented experience

You can take an account over in week one.

Apply for this role, and show us the accounts

Everything runs through the application. It takes 15 to 20 minutes, you can save and come back, and PILLAR reads every one. There is no email path for this role.

You need a resume or CV and a portfolio of social accounts you have actually run. Handles and the dates you ran them, analytics screenshots, campaign recaps. If the work sits with a former employer or under an NDA, say so in the application and we will sort it out. An application missing either one will not get read.

We like hiring people who are still getting their feet wet, and PILLAR will keep doing it. This opening needs someone further along, with documented experience behind them and the ability to hit the ground running. If you are earlier than that, apply to the general bench and stay in touch.
